"I Put A Spell On You" is arguably the greatest novelty song of all time, but Hawkins' howling manic legacy goes much deeper than that. "Alligator Wine" is the R&B "Celebration of the Lizard King;" "Hong Kong" is off the charts as far as racial insensitivity goes; and the regular rockers ("Frenzy," "Little Demon," etc.) are as good as anything by Wynonie Harris.
