Seal tackles another set of deathless classics on Soul 2, including Teddy Pendergrass' "Love TKO" and the Miracles' "Ooo Baby Baby." These songs don't need reinvention, and he doesn't try, though he proves remarkably capable of replicating their unique cadences. (An exception is Al Green's "Let's Stay Together," where Seal's shouting delivery can't match Green's Southern croon.) Nevertheless, they're a platform for his considerable vocal powers, and a velvet-toned voice that frays and crackles around the edges. The Trevor Horn-produced string arrangements are a nice bonus.
