Remember how critics complained that Julian Lennon's voice sounded too much like his late father's when Valotte debuted in 1984? Sean Lennon's third album is going to get critics griping that his voice sounds too much like Yoko Ono. Just kidding. Friendly Fire is actually a collection of 11 pop songs that each accompany 11 different short films that he produced under Michele Civetta's direction. The title track seems more inspired by the late Syd Barrett, but others like "Wait for Me" do recall John Lennon's penchant for heady whimsy and breathy, belletristic ballads.
