Seasick Steve comes from the Bob Log III school of juke-joint, punked-out blues. Nearly every track here is a foot-stomping blowout, with surly distortion overwhelming Seasick Steve's five-and-dime guitar and raspy mutterings. Cheap also possesses a touch of the eccentric. On "Love Thang" the weathered weirdo sounds like he spent too many nights hanging with a delirious Tom Waits. That said, Seasick doesn't make novelty music; there's something very convincing about his brand of roots music.
