With her debut as a songwriter and singer, Cahoone offers a spacious, elegant set of tunes that channel the dusty charms of recent influences like Chan Marshall and venerated alt folkies such as the Cowboy Junkies. Despite the name, "Sh*tty Hotel" stands out among the LP's great Darkness on the Edge of Town-inspired ballads, and the gliding finger-picking and harmony of "You Might as Well" opens the LP on a high note.
