Sergio Mendes is a Brazilian jazz pianist with a muscular playing style that gives his 1960s bossa nova recordings an American groove-laden feel. Mendes is also a master pop chameleon who has dived head first into every new musical direction, from easy listening to soft rock, from quiet storm to hip-hop. Magic Lady, released in 1979, is Mendes' commercially unsuccessful disco album. Some of the tracks -- such as the title cut and "Lonely Woman" -- work pretty well, coming off as the kind of music George Hamilton's hip Dracula danced the night away to in Love At First Bite. Non vampires beware.
