Shakira's foray into electro-pop and dancehall is as well done as anything the Colombian singer-songwriter, producer, dancer, etc. has tried her hand at since breaking out on her own in 1995. At its best (the "a-woo" part of the title cut, Kid Cudi's rap in "Did It Again," the lyrics of "Men in This Town"), She Wolf is as infectious as Missy Elliot's breakthrough singles. In contrast to Shakira's usual, decidedly organic sound, a blatantly ersatz production is intentional, pointing to her artisan's eye for detail and pushing her beyond pop parameters.
