Not unlike Luke Slater's Planetary Assault Systems project (or the majority of the Ostgut Ton roster for that matter), Shifted is focused on reconciling Downwards' closed-loop intensity with the dubby undulations of Basic Channel. What sets Crossed Paths apart from other albums of its ilk is the album's grainy, brutish thud. Which isn't to imply the mysterious producer doesn't know how to construct a groove with style. Quite the opposite, actually. On the relentless "Leather," there's an ecstatic beauty to the way he weaves pounding bass and clanging cowbell through a fog of cool, moist hiss.
