Released: Mar 1955
Label: Rhino Atlantic
Shorty Rogers was a West Coast jazz star in 1955 when he cut this small group platter for the decidedly East Coast Atlantic Records. "Martians, Go Home" was a jukebox hit with a then-unconventional stop-start pattern, while the rest is an equally winning bop set. Joining Rogers are other cool jazz and hard bop modernists from Los Angeles: Jimmy Guiffree, Pete Jolly, Curtis Counce and Shelly Manne.
