For an album that seems to have been cobbled together from remixes and previously unreleased tracks, The Buena Vibra Sound System is remarkably coherent. That's not to say it's always exciting: For every charming "La Paloma" or "San Juan," there's a throwaway track that adds little new to Sidestepper's project of colliding Colombian music with deejay trickery ... the chocolate doesn't always reach the peanut butter, if you know what we mean. But when it does, nobody can match Sidestepper's potent mix of downtown beats and joyous Afro-Colombian melodies.
