Living Like A Refugee
Released: Mar 2005
If you wanted to get corny about it, you could say that Living like a Refugee is the sound of hope overcoming tragedy, and you wouldn't be far off. At the very least, it is the sound of people coming together to make music from their suffering -- and what excellent music it is. Formed in refugee camps during Sierra Leone's civil war, the group turns to Bob Marley as a patron saint, crafting an utterly charming blend of highlife, roots reggae and vocal folk music that would make for one of the best African releases of 2006, even if there weren't such a compelling story behind it.
