The first metal album to debut at No. 1, Slave to the Grind is ostensibly the last word from the genre before Kurt Cobain and his buddies took over the world in 1991. As is the case with their self-titled debut, Sebastian Bach's menacing vocals are a major draw, as are the encyclopedic guitar lines of Dave Sabo and Scotti Hill. "Monkey Business" kicks things off with GNR-level bad-assery, and "Wasted Time" is practically a death metal power ballad. Skid Row may have disappeared with the emergence of grunge, but their first two records remain a highly respectable body of work.
