Devil Got My Woman
Skip James
Released:
Jan 1968
Label:
Vanguard
Recorded in 1966, Devil Got My Woman is a collection of songs James had been playing since the '30s. He was big influence on many early blues artists, including Robert Johnson, and his open-tuned guitar playing and eerie falsetto make for the sort of Delta blues that conjures up images of the devil traveling on empty roads in search of souls to devour. Creepy stuff.
