Thanks to a recent reissue on Ten12 Records, you can now getcha funkon to the raw dog soul of Skull Snaps, a long lost deep funk trio from New York City. They released one eponymous album in 1972 -- a proto-funk masterpiece of sweet vocal harmonies, wiry guitar and some of the wickedest drum breaks ever -- before disappearing into crate-digger legend. "It's a New Day" is the foundation for countless hip-hop tracks, and "I'm Your Pimp" is simply scathing. This EP shows what we've been missing all these years.
