Texas singer Joseph Somers-Morales nabbed his major deal with the independently released My Life and a huge YouTube hit in "Ride." His self-titled follow-up evokes '90s bedroom R&B and Justin Timberlake's pop-soul, and save for the clubby but clumsy "Fire," the album is all ballads. "Ride" still sounds terrific, but one wishes SoMo had more personality and a stronger voice. He gets a little naughty on "Back to the Start" and "We Can Make Love," as he croons on the latter, "I can be tender, I can be rough." In the swaggering, hyper-sexual worlds of pop and R&B, it may not be enough.
