Cal's opening track features a flamenco take on the Latin standard "Toda Una Vida," turning the classic romantic bolero into an ecstatic toast to life accompanied by hand clapping, cajon and Son de la Frontera frontman Raul Rodriguez's Cuban tres. This is typical of Frontera's wide-reaching but true approach to flamenco. Inspired by guitar legend Diego del Gastor, who favored expressive playing over technical feats, the group explores flamenco styles from bulerias and soleas to tanguillos. A sevillanas track feels too baroque for this set, but overall the sound is as elegant as it is bold.
