Murray Street is named for the location of Sonic Youth's old studio near the World Trade Center; it came out in June 2002. So, yeah. No explicit 9-11 tributes here, of course, but with sound-sculptor Jim O'Rourke officially aboard, it's a dense but delicate affair, preferring reverie to rage, from the elegiac "Disconnection Notice" to Lee Ranaldo's tough but tender "Karen Revisited," which dissolves carefully over 12 minutes but never bores. Ditto the rest, shot through with less meandering and more purpose than usual, making this perhaps their best 21st-century effort overall.
