Spearhead

Spearhead has distinguished itself as a band with a conscience -- and a whole lotta funk and groove. Lead singer Michael Franti first caught our ears with his biting social commentary as one half of the rap duo Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. With spot-on leftist politics and a deep, commanding voice, Franti re-emerged some years later fronting Spearhead, a more funk-based, positivistic alternative rap band. Spearhead is renowned for its phenomenal energy, the tight and passionate male/female vocal interplay, and a firm commitment to political engagement. This thoughtful band refuses to sacrifice either artistic or political integrity to the demigods of the music industry, and has enjoyed considerable success because of that.
