Two early releases by the Austin band demonstrate a progression from Pixie-ish soft/loud indie rockers, to um, Spoon. 1996's Telephono features "Don't Buy the Realistic," which rages and roils as much as any track on Surfer Rosa. Within a year the band had found its own voice, as evidenced by "Mountain of Sound" from Soft Effects.
