Cool for Cats
Released: Apr 1979
Squeeze got things together for their second outing and started showing off the genius of the Chris Difford/Glenn Tilbrook songwriting partnership. Classics include the title track, "Slap and Tickle," the pub rocker "Touching Me, Touching You" and (best of all) "Up the Junction," a love story that begins with romantic triumph and slowly sinks into alcoholism, loneliness and defeat. The only minus is that the fantastic guitar version of "Goodbye Girl" is swapped out for a slower synth-pop reading.
