Calling the Squirrel Nut Zippers the finest band of the 1990s swing revival scene is actually damning them with faint praise. They've reunited, minus side member Andrew Bird, and are once again a hot touring act. This captures their live set, which finds the band energized and exuding a raucous, slightly sloppy, yet undeniably upbeat vibe. The material comes from their back catalogue and includes their surprise 1997 hit "Hell." Their self-penned songs are modeled on 1930s Harlem jazz novelty tunes, but the band slaps them around with cartoony hillbilly rock and '50s jump blues.
