The sixth release from the now-veteran industrial metal band (at it since 1999), Cult of Static has a lockstep theme throughout. Each taut, fists-clenched song is built around a mechanical synth-guitar groove and marching drums. Singer Wayne Static, for a guy who scream-growls every syllable, remains almost sedate, in keeping with the metronomic gathering of intensity. "Stingwray," an ode to his new wife (former porn actress Tera Wray) and her Corvette, features the heaviest chug and the most maniacal-yet-restrained vocals you're going to hear on the radio.
