Stephen Stills Live
Released: Mar 2005
Label: Atlantic Records/Atg
As the 1970s progressed, Stills' studio albums sounded more and more polished and mannered. Stephen Stills Live was the one glaring exception. With fat, Allmans-inspired organ smeared all over this gritty set, Stills and his wailing guitar bleed raw emotion on heavy boogie such as "Four Days Gone" and "Jet Set (Sigh)." For the record's second half, Stills goes solo acoustic with equally awesome results; he even pays homage to his hero Fred Neil with a cover of "Everybody's Talkin'."
