The Place And The Time

Biography

Mississippi-born Singer-Songwriter, Steve Forbert, initially made his mark in New York City in the late 1970s, a time when genre lines were not so cleanly drawn, and artists could straddle a line between the world of the folk, Singer-Songwriter, and the nascent Punk scene. Forbert sings in an intimate, soulful rasp, like a whispering Rod Stewart, and he writes richly melodic and densely lyrical songs that combine rock, folk, soul and country. His second album, Jack Rabbit Slim, featuring the single "Romeo's Tune," was a big hit in '79, but Forbert never replicated that chart success. He's recorded at a slow but steady pace since moving to Nashville in the mid-'80s.
