Steve Taylor is by far the most interesting Christian musician to come along since Jesus-rock lynchpin Larry Norman. Lending himself to a host of projects as well as his own prolific solo career, Taylor tirelessly crafts whatever material he's involved in (solo/band playing, producing such upstart luminaries as Caedmon's Call) to maximize an unexpected lyrical punch and multifaceted sonic attack. Way too extreme and cynical for CCM yet not exactly derivative of Punk (so not really a part of the ACCM crowd either), Taylor spans the two genres, and by keeping above them he avoids any restraints they could possibly put on his music. Don't expect to hear pink and rosy Sandi Patti fare, or overly earnest Jars of Clay clumsiness. Taylor's work is marked by his commanding grasp of the rock vocabulary, a razor-sharp tongue and a stoic, but ultimately spiritual, perspective.
