99 Songs of Revolution

Mar 2010

Biography

Somewhat pigeonholed as a ska-punk band, Streetlight Manifesto tend to range far afield musically despite the fact that each song's foundation remains within the traditional parameters of ska (read: horns up front and staccato rhythms). For starters, bandleader Tomas Kalnoky is likely to throw in Brahms lines, jump blues sections, and matadoring European elements. After leaving 3rd wave ska band Catch 22, Kalnoky formed Streetlight Manifesto in 2002, with that band's first album, Everything Goes Numb, appearing in 2003. From there, the East Brunswick, N.J., seven-piece has continued releasing albums and has toured constantly. The band's fourth album, 99 Songs of Revolution Vol. 1, is the first in an intended eight-album cover-song project that will showcase Kalnoky and his colleagues' far-reaching scope of influences. Vol. 1 features covers of songs by Radiohead, Paul Simon and NOFX.
