Swell

Swell's pseudo experimental sound is a neo-psychedelic cat's cradle of tangled Noise Pop, often unraveling to linear, moody approximations of soundtrack music. They're not especially accessible to the more pop-inclined, but their fuzzy guitar rock -- like a more drone-heavy Pavement -- can be mesmerizing. Formed in 1989, the group has flirted with broader success with releases on the Def American and Beggars Banquet labels, but their appeal is clearly to the Indie Rock intelligentsia.
