Higher Ground lacks the desperation of her countrypolitan classics from the early 1970s, but with three sizable hits ("Your Love," "Talkin' to Myself Again" and "Beneath a Painted Sky"), the album was something of a comeback for Ms. Wynette. Basically, this record is all about Tammy tapping the neo-traditional trend that was popular throughout the '80s. It's tasteful and smooth, if a tad too polite in the production department. Yet the dobro floating in and out of these tunes is really quite arresting.
