First off: Tanya Morgan isn't a neo-soul singer; in fact, Morgan isn't even a person. Tanya Morgan is a hip-hop group consisting of Brooklyn producer/emcee Von Pea and Cincinnati emcees Donwill and Ilyas. Von Pea has a lo-fi jazzbo vibe that's appealing, whether heard in the recorder that weaves through "The Warm Up" or the piano line that tinkles over the backward bass of "Paper Thin." Fans of Madlib should take note. The chemistry between the emcees is great, and they share a certain Native Tongues playfulness that is refreshing.
