After Murder Park
by The Auteurs
Released: Feb 1996
As a producer, Steve Albini's sound is every bit as "signature" as Phil Spector's or Brian Wilson's. Not even the English essence permeating London's Abbey Road Studios could muddle the lean precision of the sounds captured by this Chicagoan, the ex-maestro of '80s noise rockers Big Black. After Murder Park, by virtue, does sound different than a proper Brit rock album from 1996 should. Herein lays the ingenuity and foresight of Luke Haines, the auteur himself; after all, a black sheep is more interesting and memorable than the flock.
