When The Black Crowes hit the scene in the late '80s, they were sassy longhairs from the ATL reminding us of the joys of vintage Stones and Faces. Flash forward 20-plus years and little of that sass remains; the group captured on Wiser for the Time, in contrast, is more earthy and Southern-fried. Likewise, their heroes are no longer Mick, Keith and Rod, but rather The Dead, The Allmans and Little Feat. The Crowes, in other words, have morphed into a jam band. It's a transformation that's also apparent from the rambling set list (which is divided evenly between acoustic and electric numbers).
