The title is appropriate: For fans of the group, Book of Dogma approaches biblical proportions. The double-disc album collects the group's first six EPs, long out of print, released between 1989 and 1992. The music still sounds advanced today, in part because the Black Dog's original approach -- to fuse elements of house, techno, breakbeats and ambient into a singular, polymorphous sound -- has largely been forgotten in an era of splintering subgenres. But that's all academic: These jaw-droppingly beautiful tracks simply inhabit a class all their own.
