The Blakes

Sep 2007

Biography

The Keim brothers grew up in Maine, and once they threw their lot in with music, the duo played whenever and wherever they could. Busking their way from Maine across the country, the brothers landed in Seattle, where they met drummer Bob Husak. Impressed with Husak's Keith Moon-like rhythms, the brothers welcomed him to the band. The trio then set off to L.A., where they wrote songs and played enough shows to get the Blakes established. Never content to sit around, the group took to the road, playing unpaid shows, truck stops -- pretty much wherever they could -- refining their sound as well as their newly penned songs. Upon returning to Seattle in 2005, the Blakes released the Little Whispers EP. Little Whispers made its way to local Seattle alternative station KEXP, where the station's program director championed it with copious amounts of airplay. A self-titled EP was issued the following year, and the band signed to Seattle's Light in the Attic label shortly after. In 2007, the band's eponymous CD was released.
