The Donkeys, like Beachwood Sparks and the Skygreen Leopards, fuse dream pop and cosmic country a la the Byrds. That's awesome, even if the young group feels a bit undercooked. The Donkeys actually sounds like two bands: a pack of cool indie kids and a bunch of dirty country hippies. It's a fun listen, especially the rustic jammers "Come On Virginia" and "Try to Get By." But if the Donkeys find a way to reconcile their split personality, the group could create a minor classic.
