World Gone Crazy
Released: Sep 2010
Label: HOR Records
Roping in reggae, soul, blues, funk and Southern saloon boogie-woogie, four old Doobies make the case that rock's no "Young Man's Game" -- the title of a Bob Seger "Old Time Rock and Roll" soundalike where they reject ageism as "crazy ideology." Ex-mate Michael McDonald joins them for some Latin-jazzed romance about San Jose nights; two songs later, they're in Juarez, grooving like Santana's "Smooth." Willie Nelson drops by, too. And they bemoan trends, from home foreclosures (the title cut) to women who like younger men ("New York Dream," which crosses '80s Steely Dan with '80s ZZ Top).
