The Greencards' delicate arrangements are ideal for their sparse instrumentation, and the combination plays up the haunting echo of Carol Young's voice, as if the Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star and Union Station morphed into one band. Songs such as "Chico Calling" and "Lover I Love the Best" have the power to lull you into an introspective mood. While you might be happy to stay in that rainy-day space, other songs, such as the breezy "Rivertown" or the upbeat "The Avenue," simply won't allow it. The Greencards' complex mix of moods, tempos and music ensures their sound stays fresh.
