Solid doesn't always get the cred the Groundhogs' first three records do, but because leader/guitarist Tony McPhee is at the controls, the album rarely goes five seconds without some kind of psychedelic sound warp. Treated vocals, phase-shifting from beyond, synthesizers that fold in on themselves and the guy's always-riveting leads make the record a through-and-through sonic blast for people who love air-guitar moves and weird sounds. In addition to the guitar-i-ness and constant knob-flipping, drummer Clive Brooks sounds like he was listening to Can's Future Days in his sleep.
