Third in the Groundhogs' trinity of superb records (Thank Christ for the Bomb and Split are the other two), Who Will Save the World? is every bit the tour de force of studio gimmickry and awesome guitar playing its predecessors are. Tony McPhee never made a name for himself in the U.S., a surprise considering he wrote Robert Pollard-level melodies for his songs and was a masterful guitar player adept at avoiding the overstuffed blooze of most British rock from this period. "The Grey Maze" and "Earth Is Not Room Enough" sound more like the Fall than Eric Clapton.
