I've Visited the Island of Jocks and Jazz
The Hospitals
Released:
Oct 2005
Label:
Load Records
The Hospitals' second record is a reverb-wobbled toothache of broken amps, unrecommended amounts of feedback and a sort of maturation from the one-trick-pony songwriting of their self-titled In the Red debut from 2003. The one-guitar-one-drum (and a whole lot of noise) setup continues to dictate a primal simplicity, but here, main man Adam Stonehouse inserts a catchiness in the proceedings -- hooks even -- amid the caterwaul; see "Rich People," "She's Not There" and "Olympic Ghost" for proof. The result is an uncompromisingly ugly record you can't stop listening to.
