Live Jam
The Jam
Released:
Oct 1993
Label:
HIP-O (PG)/Fontana
The Jam released a concert overview, Dig the New Breed, when they broke up in '82. This companion set was released about a decade later, with different tracks from the trio's career. The early numbers showcase the ferocious, melodic young punk band; later cuts are more soulful yet equally energetic. Highlights include a cover of Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up" and a fearsome run-through of "'A' Bomb in Wardour Street," which shows Paul Weller's contempt for the violence associated with the punk movement. No real surprises here but no wrong turns either -- the Jam were fantastic live.
