Remastering It's A Shame About Ray is as necessary as windshield wipers on a submarine, but supporting the 1992 LP with a nearly complete set of demos gives a telling glimpse behind the curtain of Evan Dando's loner writing process. Few of the extras stand well on their own, but it's possible to hear "Hannah & Gabi" grow into the feel of the final version, and the twee demos of "Bit Part" (which includes Juliana Hatfield) and "Rudderless" are downright precious.
