Released:
Label: Oh Boy Records
An endearingly sloppy product of a particular time and place (1978-'79, Leeds University, home of other post-punk pioneers such as Gang of Four and the Delta 5), the Mekons' debut LP only hints at the greatness to come -- but it's pretty fun listening while they learn how to play their instruments. Rudimentary three-chord rockers like "Dan Dare" and "What Are We Going To Do Tonight" do what good punk songs were expected to, but slower, yearning numbers such as "After 6" are the real standouts.
