There are longer Meters compilations and more complete ones. But, this 12-track tour through the collective’s groundbreaking late 1960s to1970s heyday offers a concise, stripped-down portrait of the Meters’ laidback New Orleans funk (which, btw, could be defined as “concise and stripped-down). “Cissy Strut,” “Hey Pocky A-Way,” “Look-Ka Py Py” and others were all R&B and dance floor hits yet the Meters songs were better known than the band itself. Their fellow musicians embraced them in ways that the public didn’t - Robert Palmer and Paul McCartney recorded with The Meters and Steve Miller’s “Fly Like An Eagle” wouldn’t exist with tunes like "Fire On The Bayou."
