Featuring songs performed with the newly invented synthesizer, Christmas Becomes Electric represented the very cutting edge of Christmas music upon its release in 1969. The fact that the Moog could produce multiple sounds simultaneously was revolutionary. That means this album is an indispensable document of the days when songs everyone knew by heart were being played with the bleeping and blooping of the Moog. The album opens with a bang, a careening "Jingle Bells" that is downright creepy, and "Carol of the Bells" is as spaced-out as early Tangerine Dream.
