Scott "Wino" Weinrich formed the Obsessed in Maryland in the early '80s, but left in 1986 to join fellow doom metal progenitors Saint Vitus. In 1990, Hellhound Records issued an album of archived Obsessed material which prompted him to go back and re-form the band with a new rhythm section. Lunar Womb is the first record the trio produced. Featuring a range of tempos, concise songs, Wino's immediately identifiable vocals and some of the Iommi-est guitar solos ever, the album remains an important doom metal document with none of the agonizing pitfalls often suffered by other doom bands.
