Some may call it kitsch, but rock covers played by a string quartet can have an integrity all their own. The Section Quartet do it better than anyone (even the Kronos Quartet) because they know how to translate both the notes and the energy of each song into their strings' range, as on the slow burning "Black Hole Sun." Rock producer Linda Perry spins subtle tricks to give each track a bit of the mystery of its studio original (see: Radiohead's "Paranoid Android") while still letting the raw acoustics command the main stage.
