These recordings come from the early 1970s when Charles Johnson was taking the band's lead vocals into a realm that was just as smooth as it was soulful. The title track, a mixture of southern soul and gospel harmonies, is one of the group's finest. You can hear elements of folk and pop seep into their sound at this stage, but there's no denying the purity of the music.
