Relatively unknown in the States, the Skids were one of Scotland's first punk bands. More comfortable with poetry than raging nihilism, the band still delivered enthusiastic male clobber choruses that were great fun, and their 1979 hit "Into the Valley" is still used today as the theme chant for their hometown Dunfermline football team. "Goodbye Civilian" echoes of guitarist Stuart Adamson's (RIP) future band Big Country. And "The Saints Are Coming" was covered by U2 and Green Day in 2006 to benefit Hurricane Katrina charities.
