Sonora Pine

Mar 1996

Biography

The Sonora Pine are a supergroup side project of sorts, founded by Tara Jane O'Neil (Retsin/ex-Rodan) and Sean Meadows (June of '44/Lungfish), and augmented by members of Pacer and Experimental Rock trio Rachel’s. Plodding, meandering guitars spawn a cascade of melodies that carry an underlying sense of urgency to each of the songs, while methodical chord progressions are packed with distortion workouts, often tilting and swaying with the percussion. Meadow’s desperate vocals create an overriding sense of isolation, further focusing the band’s insistent noise. The track featured here comes from their self-titled debut, released in 1995 and produced by Shellac bassist Robert Weston.
