Without Feathers
The Stills
Released:
May 2006
Label:
Vice Records
Now that the post-punk bandwagon is SRO, the Stills have taken a wild leap in search of some stretching room. In a complete turnabout, their second effort is much closer to the sensitive '70s piano soul pop of (fellow Canadian) Rufus Wainwright. However, the lyrics stay sharply bitter, which is a nice contrast to the bright swing of the Farfisa organ and horn section. Highlights include "Destroyer" and "Baby Blues," a duet with Metric's Emily Haines.
